A working incense for standing at the liminal point — where roads cross, choices divide, and the old ones who guard the threshold draw near. This blend is built for petitioning, divination, and calling on the deities and spirits who claim the crossroads as their domain.

Ingredients

Wormwood, myrrh, copal, mugwort, lavender, dittany of Crete, frankincense, graveyard dirt, dandelion root, honey-hawthorn

The Working

Wormwood and mugwort open sight and sharpen the veil-walking senses — classic allies for divination and spirit contact. Copal and frankincense lift the smoke as an offering, clearing and consecrating the space. Myrrh grounds the working in the old, the ancestral, the dead who linger at boundaries. Dittany of Crete thins the veil further, long used to open spirit communication. Graveyard dirt anchors the blend to the liminal — neither fully living work nor fully the dead's domain, but the threshold between. Dandelion root calls the spirits to answer, and honey / hawthorn sweetens the exchange — an offering of goodwill to those who cross with you.

• Papa Legba (Haitian Vodou) — The opener of the gate; no spirit passes without his consent.
• Eshu-Elegua (Yoruba/Santería) — Trickster and guardian of the crossroads, messenger between worlds.
• Hermes (Greek) — Psychopomp and traveler's guide, patron of thresholds and boundary stones.
• Trivia (Roman) — "Three Ways," the Roman crossroads goddess, closely syncretised with Hecate.
• Baron Samedi (Haitian Vodou) — Lord of the dead, found where the road to the graveyard begins.

How to Use

Burn on charcoal disc in a heatproof vessel at a literal or symbolic crossroads — a physical intersection, a doorway, or your working altar. Best offered at dusk or midnight, when the boundary between worlds is thinnest. Sit with intention: name the choice, the spirit, or the threshold you seek to cross.
